WAWRINKA MAKES IT THROUGH

Stanislas Wawrinka has defeated Jeremy Chardy of France in a second round match of the Rakuten Japan Open. It was a very close match and Wawrinka managed to pull off the victory after toiling very hard. The Swiss player won the match by 7-6(1), 6-7(6), 7-5. It took Wawrinka two hours and 37 minutes to defeat Chardy. With this victory, Wawrinka has entered the quarter finals of the competition.

Both the players managed to hold their service in the first five games of the first set and Chardy was ahead by 3-2 at the end of the fifth game. Chardy made the lead more profound by breaking Wawrinka’s service in the sixth game and then, serving out the next game. It seemed that Chardy would win the set easily. But, Wawrinka was in no mood to give up. He won 4 out of the next five games and the scores were tied at 6-6.

The set went into the tie breaker and Wawrinka was absolutely fantastic in that tie breaker. Chardy managed to win just one point in the tie breaker and lost the first set.

In the second set, there were no breakthroughs at all. All the 12 games went with the serve and the second set went into the tie breaker as well. Wawrinka again started well in the tie breaker and he was ahead by 5-2 at one point of time, but, Chardy won 6 out of the following 7 points and won the tie breaker to come back into the match.

In the third and final set, neither of the two players managed to sneak a breakthrough in the first 10 games and it seemed that it might be the third tie breaker in a row. But, Wawrinka got ahead with a fantastic breakthrough in the 11th game and then, wrapped up the match by holding his serve in the next game.

In the quarter final, Wawrinka will play against the British superstar Andy Murray.
