FOCUS ON WAWRINKA

Stanislas Wawrinka has a German background while he himself is a Swiss tennis player.  Wawrinka, unlike others prefers playing on a clay surface and has a kind of advantage when he plays with his backhand as he considers backhand strokes to be his power.

Wawrinka has been ranked world number 9 as of the year 2009 and he has done his country – Switzerland proud by winning the gold medal for his country in the 2008 Summer Olympics.  During this event he had Roger Federer as his partner and they together achieved this goal by defeating  Swedish Team Simon Aspelin.

Come 2011 and Wawrinka started his session in a very impressive manner indeed. Wawrinka defeated world number 6 – Berdych to win the Chennai Open crown.  Going further Wawrinka defeated Xavier Malisse in the final in three sets.  Coming to the Australian Open, Wawrinka reached the quarter finals of the tournament after defeating Andy Roddick. Wawrinka was finally defeated  by Ronald Young in the second round of the 2011 U.S Open.

A different kind of strange news popped up in the year 2011 in the month of September when he mentioned that he will be no longer under the assistance of his coach – Lundgron. He had taken a decision that he would play the rest of the season without any assistance or without any coach.  Coming to the 2011 Swiss Indoors Basel Wawrinka made it to the semi finals defeating Florian Mayer  but finally succumbed to Roger Federer giving Federer the title.  Wawrinka also played bif matches like the Davis Cup in the year 2009 where the result was tyed with Italy but the interesting part being that  he had defeated Andreas Sippi in the first match itself.
