Djovokic Hopeful Of Winning Rogers Cup

Novak Djokovic is hopeful of winning the Rogers Cup singles title for the 4th time in spite of the fact that he has got a very tough draw in the tournament this time around.

Djokovic did not have to take part in this year’s Rogers Cup actually, but, after the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal, he was invited to fill the Spaniard’s place and he accepted the invitation. He has obviously been given the top seed in the tournament.

Djokovic who has had a very exciting few weeks of late was in a jolly mood while addressing the press in Canada yesterday evening.

When asked about his thoughts on the draw that he’s got, the Serbian started cracking jokes. Firstly, he pretended as if he was very upset and then, he laughed and sarcastically said, “I just want to thank the people who have made the draw.”

Djokovic will have another joyous moment in his life in near future as his wife is due to give birth to a baby pretty soon. The world no. 1 looked very excited about that. In his words, “Winning Wimbledon, getting married and now, going to become a father, this period’s been special.”

Djokovic might be up against the Scot Andy Murray in the Round of 8 here in Toronto, while, in the final, he might be facing the second seeded Roger Federer in case he gets there.

When asked what he thinks about his chances in the tournament, Djokovic said, “It’s been quite a few months since I last featured on a hard court. So, I need to do some work before I go into the tournament. I will be practicing tomorrow, but, playing in a game is completely different from practicing. However, I am optimistic and I hope I do well.”

Cornet Wants To Follow Bartoli Steps

The French female tennis player Alize Cornet wants to do something similar to what her compatriot Marion Bartoli had done at the All England Club last year.

Bartoli had become the Wimbledon Champion in 2013 despite not being one of the favourites. But, the thing with her was that she had got a very easy draw.

Only in the final, Bartoli was up against a strong opponent. Until then, she had been playing against young, inexperienced players. So, she was a bit lucky on that front, but, that doesn’t seem to be going to happen with Cornet.

Cornet is supposed to have to face some tough players on her way to the final.

The confidence of Cornet is very high at the moment though. She has recently defeated the red hot favourite Serena Williams and has qualified for the pre quarter final round of a slam after a long time. The last time that she’d gone that far in a slam was back in 2009.

Talking to the reporters after beating Serena, Cornet said, “It’s like a dream. To get better of somebody like Serena and qualify for the pre quarters, I’m so glad.”

“I have been in the pre quarters of a Slam once before i.e. 5 years ago in Australia and that seems to be so long back.”

“It’s a great day for me, but, my job is not done and it’s very important for me to keep that in mind.”

“I have been hugely inspired by Marion and I am looking to do what she did here the previous year.”

Cornet has been eliminated from the Round of 32 of Grand Slams quite a few times in the past, but, this time around, she has made it through to the Round of 16. Let’s see if she can go all the way.
